This refers to T N Ninan's column "More indecision" (Weekend Ruminations, September 17). If making a decision or postponing a decision is part of the decision-making process, indecision, too, is a kind of "decision-making" act. In rare situations, indecision can be a blessing in disguise. But generally speaking, there is a hidden opportunity cost of indecision. Since our ministers and bureaucrats are rarely held accountable for wrong decisions, or indecision, we often come across instances of gross negligence in decision-making processes. That is how our governments repeatedly ignore investing in improving public transport facilities. And so, instead of generating funds to revamp the railway network, our railway minister implements populist measures, while our PM does not intervene.
