With reference to “West Bengal’s AMRI lesson” (Chinese Whispers, January 12) the West Bengal government has checked fire safety at all major hospitals in Kolkata through inspections by a special fire safety audit committee and some major hospitals are finding it difficult to meet the mandatory requirements — and may even be shut down.
The question is: what will happen to the highly sophisticated diagnostic equipment installed in the two AMRI Annex buildings? Does this machinery have to rust away over the many years that completing the criminal investigation and judicial proceedings will take, or can some way be found to utilise it in public interest?
