This refers to A K Bhattacharya's column "The new order" (Raisina Hill, June 16). You can't have a coin with only one side. If efficient and expeditious decision-making is one side of the coin, some amount of risks are inevitable as the other side. The Congress has by nature been too risk-averse and sensitive to possible reaction from even a small section of the populace. That is why its governments tended to play overly safe, thereby often causing inordinate delays in decision-making. One hopes that the Bharatiya Janata Party government, with a clear mandate, does have enough appetite for risks and the statesmanship at the top to defray any fallout.
