“Destiny’s child” (Lunch with BS, September 13) was an interesting portrait of Chanda Kochhar, MD and CEO of ICICI Bank. Behind a strong-willed top manager is a mother who suffers from guilt pangs for not being able to give much time to her children. She characteristically understates her achievements as the boss of ICICI Bank. Though she grew and worked in the ICICI culture for 25 years, she dared to be different in strategising with changing times. Within a year she, in her quiet but assertive way, brought about the transformation from soft strategy (growth and acquisition) to hard strategy (downsizing, shrinking and consolidation). She believes in destiny and hard work; but does she have faith in numerology too as the spelling of her surname “Kochhar” suggests?
