Apropos “A step too small” (July 11), the Bhopal gas tragedy is a bleak example of the administration’s apathy. It is not easy to forget December 3, 1984; and the way in which the Bhopal gas tragedy case was dragged for years is an insult to the victims of the country’s worst-ever industrial disaster.
The Bhopal gas tragedy verdict has raised many crucial questions. Does the judiciary lack enough laws to deal with such cases? What is holding back the government from enacting stringent laws? It is high time the government took effective and urgent steps for Warren Anderson’s extradition. The government should come up with an appropriate response to the court verdict and re-look the entire Bhopal gas tragedy case with utmost care and seriousness.
