By persevering with a strategy of being firm but restrained and building international and bilateral pressure on Pakistan to accept its inescapable responsibility, India’s moral authority and effectiveness will only be enhanced.
Ever since the Mumbai attacks, the government has shown exemplary restraint in matters of dealing with Pakistan and its terrorists. Unfortunately, Pakistan is not only in denial mode but is also trying to create ‘war hysteria’.
The Pakistani government is not as responsive as it was immediately after the Mumbai terror attacks occurred. The civilian government in Islamabad seems to be under pressure from the military. Pakistan should understand that the gravity of the latest affront to the Indian state and the people of India will remain imprinted and embossed in history for ever. Unless it takes steps to address the issue, it would only be digging its own grave.
It is time Pakistan took serious steps to accept India’s demands and bring to justice the masterminds behind the Mumbai terror attacks.
