With reference to the Weekend article by Manavi Kapur, "A new Sanskrit wave?" (April 30), efforts to revive dying languages through the medium of cinema should be applauded. A number of languages, including Sindhi, are dying. Not many know that a five-minute news capsule is broadcast by All India Radio's Saavandita station on medium wave every day at 6.15 pm, followed by news in Sindhi of the same duration.
People are not eager to learn even those languages that are widely spoken due to the necessity of learning English. Of late, there is a trend to impose regional languages on people. This is unfair. Languages have to be learnt voluntarily. But the more languages one learns, the better.
