This refers to Mihir S Sharma’s column “Our shameful kowtow” (Ticker, March 31). Is India truly a counterbalance to rising China in Asia? The recent events during the BRICS summit, in fact, show how unbalanced India is. It followed every request made by the “emperor” as the piece illustrates. India has put all the democratic countries of the world to shame by such acquiesce. No democratic country, let alone a co-equal power like India, should ever kowtow to undemocratic China under any circumstances.

The piece missed out on one incident that occurred on March 28. The president of Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) en route from New York to Delhi was sent back to the US on the same flight by the Indian government. All because the emperor considers TYC a terrorist organisation.
