The editorial "Power dreams" (September 10) has stressed the importance of power supply for the growth of industry and manufacturing that are essential for employment, solving the problem of increasing exports etc.

We are now caught in a vicious circle of having immense natural resources of coal and other mining products and importing them, which is a curse to our economy. Coal mining should be freed from the monopoly of Coal India, so that we can exploit the surplus coal and supply it to our industry.

We could then find a solution for mining in places such as the Niyamgiri hills without any delay to utilise the wealth buried under the ground.
