This refers to “Resetting the National Compass” (August 18) by Shyam Saran. His observation on the present political class in India is apt.
There has been enough debate on the self-serving tendencies of politicians. The situation is no better in other institutions, whether it is the judiciary, the executive, or civil society. Now, even some individuals in our armed forces are engrossed in self-serving ventures and often put their narrow individual interests above national interest.
Moreover, we need to achieve all-inclusive growth in such a manner that neither agriculture nor the manufacturing sector is neglected. If we aim at sustainable growth, then we will soon have to ration all our perishable resources.
The question is: do we have the political will and vision to live together in harmony as a nation and in harmony with nature?
