Apropos Kanika Datta’s column “Two-speed India” (SWOT, September 15), as Bihar and Gujarat shine with their economic development, the rest of India, in the spirit of competition, will also feel encouraged to do at least as good as both the states. This kind of state-level decentralisation and the related competition will stimulate the rest of India towards growth. If one looks at China’s success in maintaining a growth rate of 10 per cent for several decades, one finds that the secret is competition at the local level and not so much about property ownership. I am positive that chief ministers of other states will exploit this spirit of competition while looking at the shining examples of Bihar and Gujarat.
