Apropos the editorial "Double standards" (November 26), before they oppose the forward looking measures of the government in Parliament, it is time all political parties understood the mood and wishes of the people, particularly young voters, who are rooting for rapid progress. The Congress paid a heavy price in the Lok Sabha elections for failure to do so and is still refusing to learn. A preferable strategy for the party would be to support government-proposed legislations. Instead of following what the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) did as the Opposition, the Congress should play a constructive role.
The Trinamool Congress' opposition to everything the government does is a sign of frustration, while its clamour for bringing back black money stashed abroad looks amusing given that some of its stalwarts are alleged to be involved in the Saradha scam.
As for the government, the prime minister should take initiative to build bridges not only with the Opposition, but also the alliance partners. This is unavoidable since the government lacks a majority in the Rajya Sabha and without the Shiv Sena it will be weakened further.
