The article “Corruption express” (June 18) by Sunanda K Datta-Ray correctly highlights the corruption in the Railway Police Force (RPF). As someone who frequently travels by train, I think the situation has worsened in the past 30 years. In some cases, passengers have witnessed RPF constables colluding with thieves who steal luggage in railway compartments. Such incidents are more common in the northern and eastern part of India. I wonder if the root cause of this is the increasing population and the consequent lack of employment opportunities in these states.
