With reference to Shekhar Gupta’s “The WhatsApp governance” (November 19), the writer has hit the nail on the head. India being a country of an aspiring but credulous population, we give rise to demagogues who take everyone for a ride with their populist narratives. In the present scenario, the demagogue exhibits a rare conviction in a narrative which unnerves any reasoned opposition. But during 1969 there was no Arvind Kejriwal. The present drama will pan out much sooner than bank nationalisation. The label may be different, but the genre remains the same as long as the people continue to be gullible. Any prizes for guessing the modern incarnation of D K Baruah who infamously said “India is Indira, Indira is India”?
