The case of STel in the Supreme Court is curious. The company had won the case against the award of telecom licences in 2008 in the Delhi High Court and the case was in the Supreme Court where the government had appealed against the high court decision. A few days before the apex court hearing, the government asked STel to stop offering mobile services on security grounds and STel then wrote to the government saying it really didn’t want the licences it had gone to court for! There is more to this than meets the eye.
