“Delhi Metro speeds past Kolkata’s” (November 3) is clearly an example of what good management can do to mitigate the problems of people. Delhi Metro has shown remarkable growth and the credit goes to E Sreedharan who has executed the expansion of Delhi Metro by keeping bureaucrats and politicians from interfering in its working.
While there has been a spurt in accidents in the last one year, the fault lies with the contractor and some of the heavy cranes that have failed. The fact that Delhi Metro is one of the few profitable metro systems in the world speaks volumes about its working. The success of Delhi Metro should inspire many other metro projects under implementation to attain higher efficiency and growth, and at the same time, to help citizens with their urban transport woes.
