With reference to the report, “Petrol pumps, airlines will accept banned Rs 500 notes only till Dec 2” (December 1), the latest decision of the government shows its continued indecisiveness while carrying the demonetisation drive.
Earlier, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan had announced that petrol bunks and LPG stations would accept old Rs 500 notes till December 15.
Modifying rules on a day-to-day basis implies that the government has lost the road map to come to the aid of the common man in this hour of cash crunch, which may have its roots in the prevailing mismatch between demand and supply of legal currency notes. Why else would a majority of bank branches and ATMs be displaying the board “no cash”?
There are reports that people are not able to draw even their salaries from their respective accounts. All may not have plastic money facilities to fulfil their basic needs. What should ordinary citizens do in such circumstances?
