Whatever hope industry had of being able to get land for large projects have now been dashed since Mamata Banerjee has made clear that she is totally opposed to the government helping in land acquisition. As you have pointed out in ‘Singur reprise’ (July 27), this will hurt the poor more than it will benefit them. But this is not something that has deterred Banerjee who is more worried about votes than she is about development.
