Your editorial “Victory for all” (August 29) was insightful. A defeated opponent will always plan to fight back and win his dignity — the seeds of intergenerational feuds! However, if a difference of opinion is settled with grace and dignity by way of a compromise, the face-saving formula ensures no further feuds. Nelson Mandela epitomised this with his Reconciliation Commission and look at how former rulers and subjects live together. The resurgence of Gandhiji’s ideas will face a further test when reforms to the election rules are proposed by Hazare.
