This refers to the editorial "Telangana deserves better" (August 13). Perhaps one may be reading too much into the all-state survey. There is an existing census from which data could have been interpolated. But this survey can only produce skewed data based on a limited end in view. Geography may help in the division of land and people but the culture and history create enduring bonds. It was remiss of the Centre to allow a survey in the first place and now it cannot stand mute and let the process of division go on without any advice and guidance. After its success in Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party is perhaps a votary of absolute division. One hopes the Telangana split largely serves the ends of better governance of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh and does not signal the onset of unhealthy divisive trends.
