A few very interesting issues come up in the discussion over the nuclear liability Bill (“Is the nuclear Bill a good idea?”, March 17). For one, since there is no existing law on this, the total liability remains that of the government. Two, if there is no Bill that caps liability, there will be few suppliers for nuclear power — in the event, the government will continue to bear the liability as it will be the only one that will set up nuclear power plants. Three, the caps on liability are low, but these can be raised, indeed they have been raised in various countries from time to time. If the government just increases the caps, by two or three times, this will finish off all opposition to the Bill.
