Under normal circumstances, it is ridiculous to demand Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee’s resignation for yesterday’s train crash since she is not responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Railways. If anyone, it has to be the head of the zonal railway or the Railway Board chief.
But what is happening, and this applies to many of her predecessors also, is that with the minister putting pressure to start new lines, there is virtually no attention paid to safety and modernisation. Mamatadi needs to be asked to go for this reason.
