With reference to the ‘Chinese Whisper’ item “Note ban unites political rivals” (BS, December 12), this deceptive unity among various political parties over the issue of demonetisation of specified currency notes on November 8 should never be construed as closing of the Opposition ranks. It would also be highly naive to assume that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led treasury benches would successfully enjoy immunity from the public scrutiny in the wake of the breach of their trust. Needless to say, enlightened people can no longer be taken for a ride. At the same time, neither the directionless Opposition nor the government can escape their responsibility to ensure that the winter session of Parliament doesn’t meet the unfortunate fate of a total wash-out. Someone from the government has to take the initiative to quickly douse this political fire. The Prime Minister should take it upon himself to issue a statement in the Parliament on the highly contentious issue of demonetisation and must urgently clear the ai.
