Apropos "Bringing Delhi Metro up to speed" (February 21), it is appalling to read about the dismal state of affairs of the Delhi Metro, a company reputed for its execution and professionalism under the aegis of E Sreedharan, the Metro Man. How could an organisation with such a legacy fall prey to bureaucracy and let itself slip so easily between the cracks? The Indian bureaucratic red tape has long consumed many a great company owing to the work culture. Delhi Metro needs to start a public awareness campaign and its top management needs to rediscover its mojo and spine at the same time.

A comprehensive hike fare policy should be brought in and adhered to without any resistance if the world-class public system is to carry Delhiites into the coming decades. Also, delays are no excuse, if Delhi Metro could complete work ahead of schedule back in the 2000s. Now, with greater public acceptance and awareness, it should be raring to break its own records. Flawless execution and meticulous approach to work were the hallmarks of Delhi Metro. They need to remain so forever.
