With reference to the column, "Problems of Indian Railways in the Northeast" (October 23), the author, Bibek Debroy, surprises me with his insights into the Indian Railways every time he writes on the subject. He takes readers on fascinating train journeys to far-off places, giving interesting details along the way. His latest column, which takes readers to the railway tracks of the Northeast, was extremely readable.

All his columns on Indian Railways for this newspaper should be displayed on notice boards of railway running rooms, railway institutes, railway hospitals and railway workshops to raise awareness among railway staff - they can share these nuggets of information with their relatives and friends and prompt them to take train journeys. This will, in turn, push up revenues for the railways. The articles should be translated into major Indian languages. A dossier of all his articles should be preserved at the National Rail Museum, New Delhi, and constantly updated. The Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation could popularise his articles on important forums.

We need to encourage people to take the train journeys Debroy talks about in his articles. This apart, they could be published in Rail Bandhu magazine, which is given to passengers travelling in AC coaches. It would be in the fitness of things as these articles would find wider readership.
