This refers to Sreenivasan Jain's column "All in the Parivar" (The Thick of It, January 6). As expected, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre, the hard-core members of the Sangh Parivar are now more confident of rolling out their Hindutva agenda openly. Knowingly, they had not sought votes on their pet and contentious issues such as religious conversions and the uniform civil code during the general elections lest they scared away middle-class and liberal-minded Hindus. Then, the Hindutva brigade had thought that once the BJP was in power, it would be its own master. Fortunately for them, things have panned out according to the script. But this has put Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the horns of a dilemma. Sooner or later, Modi will have to choose between the Hindutva agenda and his own, related to good governance and growth, for his own credibility. Either way, this will definitely create fault lines in the Sangh Parivar.
