The Indicus Analytics analysis “The weakest link” (August 25) brought into focus the problems in healthcare services. Regarding accessibility, the government will have to give special attention to remote areas and ensure that medical facilities reach the people living there. Rural areas where the panchayats are actively involved have seen a lot of improvement. But one main problem is that a single doctor has to examine and see 150 to 200 patients a day and, thus, a patient gets hardly one or two minutes. This system should change and we should have more doctors so that patients get adequate attention. Naturally, more doctors and medical colleges are also needed.
