With reference to the article, "Make in India: Being frugal is not enough" (February 11) by Rajat Dhawan, Anu Madgavkar and Sree Ramaswamy, we are getting carried away by the tag of being known as an "industrialised" country and not focusing on excelling in the services sector.
We are well entrenched in the services sector. We have the advantage of language, our employees are known to be more creative and capable of delivering cost-efficient solutions. These are relative advantages over other countries. We need to bolster our services sector and improve our broadband connectivity.
Let us try to answer this: What is wrong if the share of services in our gross domestic product mix rises further and we come to depend more on the import of manufactured goods? We clearly stand to earn more revenues with this approach. Yes, we need to focus more on the agricultural sector to ensure food security and the well-being of farmers. But we don't need to lose sleep over developing our manufacturing sector at the cost of neglecting the services sector.
