This refers to Sunita Narain's column "Junk games and schoolchildren" (Down to Earth, April 28). Hyderabad-based National Institute of Nutrition has defined junk food as food rich in salt, fat and energy, but poor in vitamins, proteins and minerals. However, for laymen, an easier way of judging junk food is by what Michael Pollan, the author of books such as "In Defense of Food" and "The Omnivores Dilemma" says: "Eat food, not too much. Mostly plants" and "If it came from a plant, eat it; if it was made in a plant, don't."
