I don’t agree with ‘3G game changer’ (March 29). The article argues that since telecom companies are starved for spectrum, they will have no choice but to bid up the prices of 3G and BWA spectrum. What the author is not keeping in mind is that most telecom firms are badly stretched for cash and so will be unwilling to spend as much. Also, with Trai likely to come out with recommendations to allow M&A in the telecom sector, there will be lots of 2G spectrum which will soon be available as well. Firms that are bidding will also keep this in mind.
