This refers to Kanika Datta's column "Days of our lives" (Swot, March 13). Gender inequality applies to both men and women, but the focus is more on the latter. Every year, March 8 is celebrated as International Women's Day - there are discussions and a lot of hype about educated middle-class women. Pause for a moment and give a thought on how gender-bias laws are victimising men. In many nations including India, the matrimonial laws/sexual harassment laws including rape, favour women. These laws are misused and have become an instrument for harassment. The best way to celebrate Women's Day would be when women's organisations campaign for gender-neutral laws. Even the marketing-savvy consumer companies can do this as a part of their corporate social responsibility activity, by supporting such campaigns. Labour laws do not talk about consumers, they talk of only the labour.
