It is unfortunate that Lalit Modi was dismissed without giving him a chance to explain the deals he had signed as IPL chief. There can be little doubt that Modi was the brain behind IPL and it is he who has single-handedly created this multi-billion dollar brand. When IPL was in trouble since it could not be hosted in India, it was he who took it overseas — and, thanks to his renegotiation with Sony for TV rights, the franchises made up the loss in ticket revenues through higher broadcast revenues. He deserved the courtesy of being allowed to conduct his own defence.
