This refers to T N Ninan's column "Convenient 'truth-telling'" (Weekend Ruminations, October 25). I have always wondered why nobody writes about why we don't get to read in the papers about what the public gets to hear. I remember M G Ramachandran's second term as chief minister of Tamil Nadu. While his first term was characterised by his obsession with clean and corruption-free governance, his second term was anything but. We used to hear stories about how ministers were making money, though none of the papers carried them except for some local language magazines. Later, most of the stories turned out to be true.
