This refers to the article “The power and glory” (June 1) by M J Antony. It is essential for the legislature, executive and judiciary to function properly in a democracy. Unfortunately, with corrupt leaders in power, the executive today is a pale shadow of what it used to be immediately after independence.
The author correctly says it is the Supreme Court that keeps the government in check and forces it out of its inertia to work. However, there is a limit on how far the courts can extend their influence and role. And the government cannot start depending on it to carry out its functions. The executive must get its act together if it wants a stable country and a democracy
