Karnataka can be very proud that it has produced excellent spinners like B S Chandrasekhar, E A S Prasanna and Anil Kumble. It also produced stylish and superb batsmen like G R Vishwanath. Anil Kumble has bid us adieu and the leggie’s outstanding cricket career has finally come to an end. Jumbo was one of the best leg spinners who always gave his 100 per cent. At a time when the Indian team needed a captain for test cricket, Kumble obliged the BCCI with a smile and his record of leading India in a dramatic way speaks for itself. A cheerful leader, Jumbo was a fighter all through his fine career. His over 600-wicket haul speaks for itself and for his capacity as one of the best spinners India has ever produced. During the Sydney test, while Ponting was behaving badly in the Bhajji-Symonds episode, Kumble was calm and composed and never compromised on his values. His ten-wicket haul mesmerised the Pakistan batting at Kotla in 1999! Kudos to Kumble as we bid him adieu! While doing so, we welcome Daring Dhoni!
