Obliging the media, Team Anna has been eloquent about questioning an income tax notice to Arvind Kejriwal, claiming its members are being targeted by the government. It is necessary to view this protest against their insistence that the prime minister comes under the purview of the Lok Pal Bill. If small issues like this cause them to run to the media, what happens when some scheming group with links to the Lok Pal targets the prime minister and harasses him? How does he function? Can he go to the media and argue that he is being targeted by interested groups? We need men of calibre who can handle their personal problems by themselves first. Being an ex-IRS officer, Kejriwal should be able to do so rather than relying on the media to magnify the issue. Saying the timing of the notices or declaring a CD as original is also questionable. This would invite a counter-question: when is the timing correct? Also, Anna Hazare taking sides at this stage belittles a great man’s image.
