The mountainous report by Justice Liberhan on Babri Masjid demolition produced after 17 years of labour is in sharp contrast to Justice Srikrishna’s report on the Mumbai riots, which was done quickly and has some utility. The justification given by Liberhan for so long is laughable. Any judge with self-respect would have quit if the government was being uncooperative.
The only merit of the report is that it nails the duplicitous character of LK Advani, who claimed that the day of Babri Masjid demolition was the saddest day of his life. Remember, he claimed similar innocence in the decision to send the then foreign minister Jaswant Singh to Kandahar. However, recently, he did not protest when Jaswant Singh was unceremoniously expelled from the party. That says it all.
