With reference to "The job-creation process mystery" (July 12), Ajit Balakrishnan has hit the nail on the head by identifying and promoting the seven key products that can revitalise the job scenario in India's villages, where the unemployed are high in number. Local problems need local solutions and local funding. The well-entrenched habit of looking towards the state for appeasement will get us only so far.
On the other hand, inculcating a mentality of taking initiative and solving problems inventively and within the means available will not only attract state but also private foundation funding (besides accolades and prizes) and it can lead to new types of rural start-ups that our country badly needs.
