This refers to to Madan Sabnavis' article "Why 'Post Bank Of India' has few assets (March 11). The idea of converting India Post into Post Bank of India seems lucrative and also portrays that the country is stepping into a modern era of technology. Sabnavis' analytical perceptions regarding this idea put a serious caveat that should not be ignored. As the author suggested, there are many employees who will not able to adapt to the new system, and if they are replaced then the situation could worsen. The other important point is that most of the post offices are working just for the sake of it. There is a serious lack of infrastructure such as ample space, furniture and so on. Another pivotal point is the matter of deposits made by the public. Many people hesitate and have less information regarding bank policies, so it could prove to be a hindrance in their savings habits. The idea can be implemented but should be done with utmost caution. It is also important to make sure that the needs of the poor and less-educated people are kept in mind.
