This refers to Ajay Modi’s piece (“Govt dilemma easier to handle if Parikh report is accepted”, February 20) on the Kirit Parikh report. The government is not as foolish as is made out to be. If prices of petrol and diesel are raised in the manner Parikh recommends, and sales of kerosene are to be limited, the voters will teach the government a lesson. The report is not going to create a win-win situation as has been projected (oil companies’ market cap will rise and the government’s subsidy bill will be lowered) but a lose-lose one.
