This refers to the editorial "The tasks ahead" (May 21). Narendra Modi has been given a clear mandate and the people, especially the youth, have high expectations from his government. However, things cannot be changed overnight. Modi should be given time to settle down. The nation is facing numerous problems with unemployment, lack of medical facilities, poor infrastructure and inflation topping the list. Modi can only overcome these problems if he sheds his autocratic way of functioning and takes the help of allies and experts. He should realise that governing the nation is different from governing Gujarat, where he called all the shots.
Second, Modi should build confidence among the minorities and assure them that he will work for all-round development of the nation, without any discrimination on the grounds of caste, creed and religion.
Third, cutting across party barriers, Modi should choose his ministers and advisors purely on the basis of merit
