This refers to the report "Sun TV shares down 5% as CBI arrests Dayanidhi Maran's aide" (January 23). There is more than what meets the eye in the allegations made by Maran against the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. If the arrested people are really being tortured by the CBI, they could well approach the appropriate court for redressal. The case relates to 300 telephone lines allegedly installed at Maran's residence (when he was the Union telecom minister), free of cost and connected to the Sun TV office, for the channel's data transmission, causing a huge loss to BSNL.
Maran's allegations are all of a piece with the way the Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam's first family has always reacted, whenever allegations of corruption have been levelled against it, right from the 1970s. The CBI should not succumb to such pressure tactics and continue its probe to the logical end.
