As someone who gets most of his news from web-based outlets. I was intrigued by the statements made by Tariq Ansari in “Media’s crystal-gazer” (June 15). Everyone knows the future is online media outlets and that’s clearly the reason why the Midday owner sold out his little newspaper to a giant. So, who is he kidding when he claims that newspapers have a great future?
Very few newspapers make money from their online operations so it calls for a lot of innovation and lateral thinking. Indian newspaper publishers do not have the stomach for it even if some have deep pockets. Just look at their antediluvian websites and you know that the future is bleak.
