Mitali Saran’s piece, “Fiddling while Rome burns” (December 17), attempts a psychological analysis of the “bright minds” that worked overtime to score the “self goal” of demonetisation.
Though the conclusive inference is obvious, she has meticulously followed a logical, step-by-step approach to search for any iota of empathy in the thought process that brought about this calamity but couldn’t find any.
Such empathy is conspicuous by its absence even in the post-demonetisation scenario. Only a narcissistic mind, which does not attract any economic brain near it, is capable of such decisions — worse still, never admit its folly. A brilliant piece.
