I do not agree with the views in your editorial “Quote, unquote” (May 24). It was unfair of Ratan Tata to refer to Mukesh Ambani in his interview. Today you may not agree but it is a fact that Mr Ambani is, metaphorically, a bull and you cannot expect milk from a bull. Mr Tata is trying to fill a bucket with milk from a bull when he suggests that Mr Ambani should launch welfare schemes for the poor.

I also believe Mr Tata does not know who he is. He has a larger number of companies under the Tata group. He should persuade each one of them to adopt one district in any state for all-round development. He should advise every company head to provide basic amenities in every village. Any Tata company can do this work within six months. It is a matter of setting priorities. The Tata group has always been a leader and should stay that way. After all, doers always do; they don’t ask others to do.
