The National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) loss in the Bihar Assembly elections can be attributed to too much presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's in the campaign before the polls and too little of his reaction to the recent controversies.

It is Modi's personality, which won the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Even in Bihar, the NDA campaign was all about Modi, but when it came to taking on the Opposition, other leaders had to take charge, making statements that were either controversial or off-topic.

Modi must start becoming more vocal and visible in India: while his rivals are getting all the attention here, he has been seen overseas most of the time, celebrating the 2014 general elections victory of the NDA.

It is time for Modi to take on every issue and not be silent on any of them. His rivals are on a high now, having found in Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar the leader, who can arguably match up to Modi.
