Indian cricket captain M S Dhoni has been candid enough to admit that the gruelling IPL schedule and the parties took their toll on his team in the global championship. But what is appalling is that Dhoni and others kept quiet while cricketers were raking in millions of rupees, endorsing all manner of products, and attending parties despite being tied to the IPL schedule.
Even worse, all the great brains of cricket who are now accusing Lalit Modi of all manner of crimes, didn’t see this. Whether the IPL governing council saw the fineprint of the deals Modi was signing or not, surely they could have seen that the cricketers were being overplayed. None of them, however, raised their voice, because they were all basking in the reflected glory of IPL and the huge success that it was. It is time to replace all the top brass of cricket associations in the same manner as Sports Minister M S Gill is trying to do with other sports associations.
