This is refers to the report “Heavy rainfall helps UJVN set new record” (August 23). It is heartening to see that hydropower projects in Uttarakhand have benefited with heavy rainfall, resulting in a new record in power generation. This is the beginning of a new era in power production that was in the doldrums due to land acquisition and environmental problems. We have a huge potential in the area of hydroelectricity. And it is of paramount importance that we harness it by taking a holistic view on environment and land acquisitions before clearing hydropower projects.
