It is a pity that only ten MPs attended Martyrs’ Day observed to pay homage to those who saved Parliament from the terrorists. It is surprising that even the new Home Minister P Chidambaram was not there to observe the same because he was busy attending some function elsewhere. It is very sad that even after the brutal and bloody Mumbai massacre, our politicians have not changed. They seem to be only worried about votes and their posts. Martyrs’ Day at Parliament should be observed as a national event of importance. It is really very unfortunate that those who sacrificed their lives are remembered with thin attendance of our so-called leaders and ministers. What’s the use of talking about them behind closed walls and that too to gain some cheap popularity and vote? Even God cannot save our country from politicians.

S Venugopalan, Mumbai
