A quarter century has passed since the terrible tragedy at Bhopal and the government has not taken any action to bring those responsible to book. While criminal liability against Carbide was fixed, in 1991, no serious attempt was made to ensure its officials were extradited to India.
This confirms that it is possible to get away with any crime in India. The government is too busy chasing foreign investment and is not too concerned about anything else. Carbide did not even deposit the Rs 100 crore the government asked it to as an advance for the cleaning up process.
